The Strength to Feel It

For a long time I thought being strong meant not feeling anything. Pushing it down. Acting like it didn't hurt.

But pushing pain down doesn't make it go away. It just makes it leak out sideways, in anger, in shutting down, in pushing people away.

Real strength, I learned, is letting yourself feel it. Crying when you need to. Saying out loud, "This hurt me." Then deciding what to do next.

Writing UNLOCKED was me finally feeling things I had locked away. It was hard. It was also the beginning of healing. If you've been holding it all in, maybe today is the day you let a little of it out.
